3rd-6th class 7

  • Warm-ups (last day of Shakedown)
  • Sound Machine
  • Sound Changer Circle
  • Worked in groups of 2 or 3 and acting out short scenes of dualing superheros.
  • Handed out monthly fliers with updates for parents and a treat for the kids.

K-2nd class 6

  • Warm-ups (last day of Hokey Pokey!)
  • Told story with class creating the sound effects
  • Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
  • No Bears Are Out Tonight
  • Short improv scenes on stage. Students were put into groups of 3 or 4 and took turns acting out different kinds of animals from our story, "Nobody Laughs at a Lion."
  • Handed out fliers with updates for the parents and treats for the kids

  • Used picture cards to imagine what people were saying
  • Animal Sounds exercise
  • Learned a new Choral speaking projection exercise, No Bears Are Out Tonight. Everyone really enjoys a turn being a bear.

3rd-6th class 6

Today we had a shortened class because people were setting up the gym for a meeting and we had to wait for instructions, then move outside. Everyone was very patient with the changes.
  • Warm-ups (introduced a new element to Pass the Clap)
  • Reviewed Sound Machine, passed through with a sound card changing speed to fast
  • Sound Changer Circle
  • Worked with picture cards to guess what people were saying
  • Discussion on being a good audience
  • Created small group improv scenes (SNL style) based on our picture cards
  • Finished up with a Shake Down

K-2nd class 4

  • Warm-ups
  • Guess Who: A student would come up to the front and make sounds like an animal, person, or thing. We had to guess what they were based on the sounds they made.
  • Telephone: We needed to practice our listening skills, so we played a quick game of telephone.
  • Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
  • We used the drawings from yesterday to practice making animal sounds.
  • We finished up by listening to the story, "Nobody Laughs at a Lion," by Peter Bright. We will be developing a play for our class based on this book.

3rd-6th class 5

  • Warm-ups
  • review of vocal vocabulary
  • Sound Machine: everybody chose a sound and had to pass through the sound machine with their sound. When they passed through they had to change the sound in some way.
  • Sound Changer Circle: the class forms a circle. A designated person makes a nonsense sound, then walks across the room to another person. The person they chose has to immitate that sound, then choose someone else to walk to. When they pass through the center of the circle they need to change their sound is some way.
  • We finsihed up with a writing exercise, "If you were a Super Hero and could have any special powers, what would they be?" Super Heros will be one of the themes for our play.

K-2nd class 3

  • Warm-ups
  • We had lots of wiggles today, and did the Hokey Pokey to get them all out
  • Worked on our vocal dynamics: soft, medium, loud
  • Learned a new exercise for vocal dynamics: Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Everyone loved taking turns being the Wicked Witch!
  • We finished up the class by drawing pictures of our favorite animals and sharing the drawings with the rest of the class. We will use these drawings for an activity in our next session.

  • Introduce your self as a Rock Star! and give a short performance (inflatible guitar prop)

  • Perform short improv skits in small groups using nonsense words
  • Finished up with some deep breathing exercises

  • Vocal and physical warm-ups
  • Soldier march, salute, and give name
  • Breathing exercises
  • Projection exercise
  • Introduce your self as a Rock Star! (inflatible guitar prop)

3rd-6th class 3

We are continuing our theme of Vocal Production for the month.
  • Vocal and physical warm-ups
  • Reviewed clavicle & diaphram breathing, head voice, chest voice, nasal, and denasal ways of speeking
  • Projection exercises
  • Breathing exercises
  • Used nonsense words from last week out of the "Magic Hat" to create a Human Orchestra
  • Used same words to create short scenes in small groups using inflection to convey meaning
  • Vocally interpeted scenes from picture cards
  • Created short improvisations in small groups based on picture cards
  • Writing Exercise: If you could give a message to the country and you knew everyone would listen, what would you say?

3rd-6th class 2

Today we had a much larger group as pretty much everyone was here.

  • We learned the Boom-Chic-a-Boom exercise as part of our warm-up
  • Rhythm word game
  • Vocal and physical warm-ups
  • Learned about and practiced: clavicle breathing (shoulders rise up and down) and diaphragm breathing (tummy goes in and out), head voice, chest voice, nasal and denasal ways of speaking.
  • We talked about inflection and used a game called Boogedy to show how inflection gives meaning to words.
  • We finished up with a writing exercise on different sounds that you can make. We'll use these sounds in our next class to create a human orchestra!

K-2nd class 1

Today I met the wonderful K-2nd class. We have a wonderful group with lots and lots of energy! Today we did the following activities:

  • Name Game with movement association
  • Stretching and Shake-Down
  • We then played a game where we had to pretend to walk and make sounds like our favorite animals. The kids especially enjoyed being gorillas!
  • We learned a vocal exercise called Boom-Chic-a-Boom where the kids got to practice using their voices to sound like different types of characters.
  • We finished up with some breathing exercises. This is a very active group!

3rd-6th class 1

Today was the first day of the drama program for 3rd-6th grade class. The focus for today was Introduction to the Drama Program, and Building Ensemble. We did the following activities:

  • Name game with Animal Association exersize
  • Warm-ups
  • Group focus exercises: Pass the Clap, Follow the Leader
  • Walk Like an Egyptian: walking around the room in different characters
  • Breathing exersizes
  • Discussion on what the curriculum will be like for this program

We only had a small group today because it was the first day of school, but we hope to see everyone next time!

Hi, my name is Becky Collier, formally known as Miss Becky, and I will be the drama teacher for the OSA after school drama program this year. I am very excited to be teaching this course, and I look forward to getting to know all of you better!
