  • Warm-ups
  • Tongue twister test, everyone passed. Marcus was a close call, but he eventually got it.
  • The kids showed me a play they were working on.
  • We read through another scene of our play.
  • Newsletter and treats were passed out.

  • Warm-ups
  • Tongue twister test, eveyone passed.
  • Shake out to get rid of our wiggles 2x.
  • We ran through our entire play onstage. We barely made it to the end, but we did it!

3rd-6th class 26

  • Warm-ups, reminder about tongue twister quiz Tuesday
  • Talked about the "Avian Flu" and played Pass the Sneeze.
  • We had an incidnet of a student getting his cellphone taken away for using it in class. The students were put into groups of 2 and got to improvise short scenes based on a student and a teacher's reaction to student cellphone use in the classroom.
  • We read through Act II scene I of the play.
  • We discussed the play for awhile.

K-2nd class 24

  • Warm-ups, reviewed tongue twister for quiz Monday.
  • Talk about the "Avian Flu" and avoiding sick birds. Played Pass the Sneeze, a variation of Pass the Clap.
  • Learned new song/activity--Do As I'm Doing. Students join in song and mimic instructor.

  • Discussion: What kinds of things would annoy a tree in the jungle? What kinds of things would the like? What would trees talk about?
  • Writing exercise: What would you talk about if you were a tree in the jungle? Students shared their responses with the rest of the class.
  • We played Earthquake for the rest of the class period.

  • Warm-ups
  • Review tongue twister!!
  • The Magic Prop--We passed around a giant foam pencil and had to pretend it was something other than what it actually was. The rest of the class had to guess based on the clues given by the actor student.
  • We did a couple of variations of the Magic Prop exercise working in small groups and improvising scenes.
  • We finsihed up by reading through Act I scene III of our play.

  • Warm-up
  • This week we are focusing on trees to help develop character for Nigel, Kenesha and Tyler who will be playing the trees in our play.
  • Think Like a Tree—students imagine that they are trees. They practice standing like different kinds of trees and imagine how a tree would respond to different weather conditions.
  • The Woodcutter—the students pretend to be trees in a large forest. One of them is selected as the Woodcutter and he has a limited time to run and chop down all the trees. When the trees are chopped down, they make a crashing sound and tumble to the ground.

  • Customer Service—Discussed customer service careers, including how to handle the angry customer. Students were paired up and put through a training session.
  • Read through Act I scene II of the play.

  • Warm-ups, New tool: Imagination
  • Imaginary Ball--Students passed the imaginary ball around the circle, changing the ball whenever it would come to them.
  • Read and walked through Act I scene I of Men in Black at OSA.
  • Improv Relays--students took turns participating in a short partnering improv. They would tag each other out to join in..

  • Warm-ups, new tongue twister: Rubber baby buggy bumpers. New tool: Imagination.
  • Magical Morphing--We passed around a magic wand that the students used to turn each other into animals. When they became an animal, the came out into the center until they were turned back into kids again.
  • Magic Bag--We passed around a Magic Bag. The kids would reach into it and pull out an invisible item which they woud begin using so that we could guess what it was.
  • We did a walk through of our play, Nobody Laughs at a Lion. The cast is as follows:

3rd-6th class 22

  • Warm-ups, New tool: Imagination. New tongue twister: Tuesday is Stew Day, choose stew Tuesday
  • Imaginary Ball--passed an invisible ball around the circle twice, each student had to do something to the ball before they passed it on.
  • Talked about jobs and actions associated with jobs. Everyone got to go around the circle and show us a job while we tried to guess what they were.
  • New York--2 teams, they meet in the middle of the room and go through this dialogue: "Where are you from?" "New York." "What do you do?" "We'll show you." Team one acts out a career as a group. Team 2 has to try and guess. As soon as they guess right they chase after the members to Team 1 and try to tag them. Anyone they tag has to join their side. Once the players touch the wall they are safe. This game was a hit.

  • Warm-ups, New Tool: Imagination
  • Pass the Goofy Face--like "Pass the Clap," but with a goofy face.
  • What am I?--talked about careers people have. What are the jobs of the students' parents? What kinds of actions are associated with these jobs? I'm a firefighter, what kind of actions would I do? Can you guess what my job is now? (Choose a different career to act out) Go around the circle and let each child act out a career while the rest of the class tries to guess what they are.
